Estos son tiempos emocionantes para el creacionismo bíblico. A partir de un estudio piloto publicado en el año 2007, el proyecto ENCODE (1) - Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (o Enciclopedia de Elementos del ADN en español) ha publicado más de 30 artículos científicos en su siguiente fase, revelando que la mayoría de nuestro ADN es completamente funcional, dando otro golpe fatal a la creencia evolucionista de que la mayoría de nuestro ADN es “ADN basura” (junk DNA).
La investigación involucró la participación de 1,440 científicos en 32 institutos diferentes y realizando más de 1,600 experimentos (2). En estos estudios se encontró que más del 80% del ADN hace “algo” aunque el detalle de estas actividades del ADN, aún están por descubrirse o entenderse. Menos del 2% del ADN representa un código para las proteínas. El resto resulta ser un gigantesco panel de control como “millones” de interruptores que encienden y apagan los genes de producción de proteínas. Según el tipo de célula, es el tipo y configuración del interruptor.
El sitio de Internet de Discover Magazine reportó (3): “¿Y qué se encuentra en el 20% restante? Posiblemente tampoco “ADN basura”, según declaró Ewan Birney, el coordinador analista líder del proyecto. El explica que el ENCODE solamente se enfocó en 147 tipos de células cuando el cuerpo humano tiene varios miles de células diferentes. Un tipo de genoma puede controlar un gen en alguna célula en particular, pero no en otras. Si todas las células son incluidas en el estudio “es muy posible que ese 80 por ciento aumente al 100 por ciento”, afirmó Birney. “En realidad no tenemos grandes cantidades de ADN basura. Este término ya no resulta útil”.
Aún considerando todas sus suposiciones favorables, los evolucionistas no pueden explicar más de una pequeña fracción del ADN, por tanto, han afirmado por muchos años que el 97% de nuestro ADN es basura o que no tiene ningún propósito. Nosotros, quienes creemos en la Palabra de Verdad y en aquél quien afirma ser la Verdad, sabemos que fuimos creados por un Creador perfectamente inteligente y sabio, por tanto, la creencia de ADN sin uso o propósito no tiene sentido desde una perspectiva bíblica. En 1994, el fundador de la revista Creation Magazine, Carl Wieland, escribió: “Los creacionistas sabemos que un día descubriremos que este “ADN basura” tiene efectivamente una función” (4).
Este descubrimiento no ha sido recibido con agrado por muchos evolucionistas. Uno de ellos escribió en un blog de Scientific American que dudaba la “muerte” del “ADN basura”, y se quejaba del daño público hecho por ENCODE (5). ¿Daño a qué o a quién? Claro que no a la ciencia... ¡al ateísmo!
Al dar tres razones por las cuales la evolución requiere toneladas de ADN basura, concluye que los descubrimientos del proyecto ENCODE deben estar equivocados. La verdad es que la creencia en el ADN basura, nació muerta, y la teoría de la Evolución, junto con ella.
Los científicos tienen todavía mucho trabajo para descubrir las tareas específicas que el ADN lleva a cabo. Es una tarea enorme. El genetista Rick Myers lo pone de esta manera: “Nos falta mucho para terminar. Pudiéramos decir que esta tarea pudiera continuar para siempre” (6).
